Summit Entertainment, which releases the franchise, confirmed that Bill Condon will direct Breaking Dawn, the next part of The Twilight Saga based on books by Stephenie Meyer . The film is produced by Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosefelt and Stephenie Meyer.
Bill Condon won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1999, for Gods and Monsters. He was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for Chicago in 2003. Bill Condon directed Dreamgirls, Kinsey, Sister, Sister and the pilot for Big C.
Erik Feig, president of production and acquisition at Summit Entertainment said: "Bringing Stephenie Meyer's 'Breaking Dawn' to the screen requires a graceful and intelligent hand, and we believe Bill Condon is exactly the right steward, having shown equal and abundant talents of immense creativity and subtle sensitivity" .
Bill Condon said “I’m very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book— and we’re hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience,”
Stephenie Meyer is also happy that she’ll be working with Condon. “I’m so thrilled that Bill wants to work with us. I think he’s going to be a great fit, and I’m excited to see what he does with the material,” said the writer.
Melissa Rosenberg is working on the screenplay and all the main parts will feature the known actors: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
Breaking Dawn is supposed to open June 30th nest year. The film is expected to go to production in November in Canada. It is still possible that the last book might be made into two sequels. There is even talk abut 3D.
